North Carolina Advocates for Justice nomCOMM 2016 Team
Committee Chair and President Elect Bill Powers is pleased announce the North Carolina Advocates for Justice Nominating Committee or “nomCOMM” 2016 Team.
The Board of Governors unanimously elected the nomCOMM Team during the January 20, 2016 BOG Meeting in Raleigh, North Carolina at NCAJ headquarters.
The nomCOMM for NCAJ helps recognize Judges, Legislators, Lawyers and Special Citizens whom exemplify the highest ideals of the now fifty-year-old public service organization.
The attorneys whom make up the nonCOMM 2016 Team are incredibly talented lawyers, whom are known for their dedication to NCAJ and most importantly, engaged. I am proud they have agreed to serve – Bill Powers
The North Carolina Advocates for Justice is dedicated to protecting people’s rights through community, education, and advocacy.
Team nomCOMM 2016 are all members of the Board of Governors and will be active in selecting future members of the Board of Governors.

The nomComm 2016 additionally assists in the selection of NCAJ Awards such as “Legislator of the Year,” “Judge of the Year,” and the like.
Recognition for the Awards will be made in June 2016 at the North Carolina Advocates for Justice SUMMER CONVENTION in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Awards and Duties of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice Nominating Committee:
Nominating and Awards Committee – This Committee is composed of the President, the Immediate Past-President, the President-Elect, one Past-President selected by the President, and five Board members elected at large by the Board of Governors.
It’s duties include:
- (1) Recommendations to the Board of Governors for all officers, Board of Governors members, AAJ Governors and AAJ State Delegates; and
- (2) Recommendations to the Board of Governors for recipients of various North Carolina Advocates For Justice aw ards, including:
- (i) The Outstanding Trial or Appellate Court Judge and/or Trial Law yer based upon merits;
- (ii) Outstanding Legislator Award for a law maker w ho has show n particular concern for the rights of the wrongfully injured person or the criminal defendant;
- (iii) Recipients of general aw ards for non-North Carolina Advocates For Justice members making substantial contributions to the trial bar or the cause of justice;
- (iv) Recipients of the Walter Clark Award for rare instances w here a judge, law yer or a lay person has rendered extraordinary service to the cause of justice; and
- (v) The Charles L. Becton Aw ard for Outstanding Teaching in Trial Advocacy. (vi) Thurgood Marshall Award
