MONITECH IGNITION INTERLOCK MONITORING

MONITECH 2015 IGNITION INTERLOCK MONITORING

Monitech Ignition Interlock Monitoring, also known as the IID Ignition Interlock Device or the “Blow-and-Go” is sometimes mandated as a condition for operating a motor vehicle in North Carolina.  The purposes of “monitoring” include:

  • Preventing an operator from STARTING a car if the Blow-and-Go detects the presence of alcohol
  • Require “Rolling” testing while operating a motor vehicle* to confirm Ethanol hasn’t been consumed after the start-up protocol
  • Report Back to the Department of Transportation / Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

It is worthwhile to note that there is indeed a 45 Day Hold for A Limited Driving Privilege, as may be issued by a Judge pursuant to the issuance of an Ignition Interlock Limited Driving Privilege, consistent with North Carolina law.  It also may be required as a Condition of Restoration pursuant to a hearing or requirement imposed by DMV, which may not necessarily require the standard 45 day “wait” period.  Put simply, it can be a complicated legal process.  *Not all “vehicles” can have an interlock device installed, including but not limited to motorcycles and mopeds.

Powers Law Firm PA does not specifically endorse any single provider of the Interlock Device.  There are three authorized companies in North Carolina.
